Little is known of the Goddess Gefjon, what is known is her name means ‘Generous one,’ and she is wife of the legendary King Skjoldr and dwelt in Lejre in Denmark.

 

Once when dressed as a peasant woman roaming the worlds, she came across and helped King Gylfi who offered her the reward of as much land as she could plow in a day. She told her four Jotun sons who brought their giant oxen and plowed away a huge section of land creating the lake Malaren in Sweden and the island left was that of Zealand
