Witchy Wednesdays - Foxglove

Foxglove is a biennial plant which can grow up to 5 feet tall and has thimble shaped flowers varying from the colours white to purple and including some red. It grows almost anywhere except near the coast but grows very easily from its seeds been scattered. In magick it can be used for protection against faerie magick or if planted in the garden it can be used for attracting the faeries. Scandinavian legend says that the faeries taught foxes to ring foxglove bells to warn each other of approaching hunters. In Roman mythology, Flora showed Hera how to impregnate herself by touching a foxglove to her belly and her breasts. In the past it has been used to treat heart conditions however it is a poisonous plant to work with especially eating it or breathing in the smoke from burning it. An old saying about foxglove goes "It can raise the dead and it can kill the living". If poisoned it causes nausea, vomiting and diarrhea, as well as sometimes resulting jaundiced vision and the appearance of blurred outlines , drooling, abnormal heart rate, cardiac arrhythmias, weakness, collapse, dilated pupils, tremors, seizures, and even death.
